Rendezvous Bert Paterson, MD, Aviva Life Insurance Company India Pvt. Ltd.
“The gift of patience I developed, has worked wonders inIndia!”
Behind his disarming Scottish demeanour, Bert Paterson, MD, Aviva India, is a man of steely grit. Here’s his take on India, the insurance sector and more...
Born in Scotland, in love with Turkey (he even has a Turkish wife), working and living in India. That just about succinctly sums up the life and times of Bert Paterson, Managing Director of Aviva Life Insurance in India, who stepped into the shoes of his predecessor Stuart Purdy in September last year. And as soon as he took over he found himself faced with the daunting task of finalising an ambitious expansion plan initiated by Purdy. Bert, of course, emerged with flying colours. He not only gave final shape to Aviva Life Insurance’s 2007 expansion plans of making the direct sales force (DSF) team strong by upping the total force to a whopping 31,000 (from 10,000), but also increasing the total number of branches for the private insurance company from 92 to 193, by the end of this year. Considering that Aviva has already crossed the 22,000 DSA mark today, Paterson is obviously well on target!
