But the truth is that MasterCard’s decision to raise the IPO, however ironically and strangely, can be directly credited to the legal lawsuits that MasterCard is facing, which are anticipated to give it cash flow problems in the medium term; making generation of capital almost a necessity. In fine print though, the said filing by MasterCard to SEC implores, “We face heightened regulatory scrutiny and legal challenges.” The fact is that MasterCard and Visa face swelling lawsuits in US courts alleging that the companies abused their market power and took to anti-competitive practices to the detriment of customers and competitors…
